In South Sudan, World Vision is combating hunger through a number of projects, including helping people build fish farms to create sustainable food sources.

The communities that World Vision visited in South Sudan suffered from a hunger crisis, where each day would be a gamble in terms of whether people would have food on the table or not. While World Vision typically responds to these situations by providing food, they opted instead for an innovative solution that would enable the communities to be self-sufficient.

Global Youth Director, Paul Newnham quotes: “If you give a man a fish, they’ll eat for a day, yet if you teach a man how to fish, they’ll be able to eat for a lifetime”. As such, World Vision taught citizens how to grow, stock, and look after fish, so that they would not only be able to feed their families but also generate income, thus providing a sustainable solution to world hunger.
