How to compete?
Step 1: register for free – this year’s competition is closed, but you can register and we will let you know when next year’s competition begins.
Step 2: Become one of the Top 111. Here’s how:
54 places will be given to the most successful in our 'Passport Points' competition (read below).
54 places will be given to those who do well in 'Quest and Questions' (again, details below). You CAN enter both.
3 will be given out randomly at a University. This year places were given out at New York University.
Step 3: Become one of the Top 12 to be flown to the UK to compete in the Your Big Year final next March! Here’s how:
Task 1 - Participate in an event for Global Entrepreneurship Week (or organise and run an event of your own)
Task 2 – Video: 'Your 2020 vision' – Smaller Earth’s vision is to positively impact 20 million people by 2020. How will you positively impact the world?
Task 3 – Video: "Their big year" – interview 3 people about “their big year”

And what’s to lose? Anyone who registers, whether a supporter or competitor, is automatically entered to win participation on a Smaller Earth international volunteer project. Register now.
Passport Points
Once you have registered for Your Big Year 2012, you can immediately get started on earning ‘Passport Points’. Collecting enough passport points will guarantee you a place in the next round of the competition. Here’s how you gain points:
50pts - register
75pts – check out the Your Big Year 'Video Wall'. Each of the videos on the wall illustrates an important part of the work conducted by Smaller Earth, Your Big Year and Global Entrepreneurship Week. Answer a question about any of the videos correctly to earn points!
100pts - upload a photo of yourself with the Your Big Year logo. Print the logo here, take a good picture and submit it from the 'Edit your Profile' page.
Additional points are earned by encouraging friends to sign up with your Passport ID. You will earn points for everything they do! If they answer a video question correctly, you both earn 75 points! If they upload a photo, you both earn 100 points!
The top 54 on November 8 will move into the top 111.
Quest and Questions
You can go through to the Your Big Year Top 111 by competing in any or all of our three ‘Quest and Questions’ competitions:
10 places – Quiz One – It is open after registering and takes just 60 seconds to enter. You will also earn 75 bonus Passport Points by answering the simple question.
15 places – Quiz Two – Open on October 6
29 places – Quiz Three – Open on Nov 9. The final quiz is our 24 hour quiz marathon, with the fastest answers claiming their place. Further details will be announced on the Your Big Year Facebook page and on this website.
