The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our 235 lifeboat stations provide, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 nautical miles out from the coast of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and a seasonal lifeguard service on over 150 of the busiest beaches in England and Wales. The RNLI also works to promote sea and beach safety. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, our volunteer lifeboat crews, and since 2001, our lifeguards, have saved over 139,000 lives. We continue to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for income and every year we must find £123.5M to keep our lifeboats and lifeguards operating and make sure every penny donated is spent prudently.
