Oxfam GB is a development, relief, and campaigning organisation that works with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering around the world. We work on three interlinking fronts: Development: We fund long-term work for better futures, believing poor people can solve their own problems, given the right support and resources. From raising houses above flood levels, to mobile schools, we never stop working to help people cut their problems down to size. Campaigning: Whenever an issue is blatantly unfair, or secretly shoved under the carpet, we call on ‘people power’. Thousands of people come together to demand – and get – results. In Zambia, for instance, health care is now free for the first time – thanks to global campaigning. Emergencies: We save lives by swiftly delivering aid, support and protection. Oxfam should be included in the Your Big Year because our programme called The Enterprise Development Programme offers enterprise driven solutions to poverty. We provide a mix of finance (loans, grants, guarantees) and skills to early stage small and medium sized enterprises – most of which are operating in challenging conditions – in and around the developing world. Our aim is to create wealth and drive growth throughout the local economy.
